Duncan Shearer
'Big Dunc' in action for Scotland. A relative latecomer to the international scene, it was not until Shearer came to Pittodrie in 1992 that he was to receive international recognition. Shearer had been a prolific scorer in the English League for his entire career after moving south from his native Fort William. Duncan had seen service with Huddersfield, Chelsea, Swindon and Blackburn before Willie Miller paid £500,000 for the hit man in July 1992. Shearer immediately solved the Dons scoring problems, and was capped in 1994 against Austria.

Duncan fulfilled a boyhood dream when he was in the same Scotland side as his schoolboy friend John McGinlay. Shearer scored the Scots first goal against Finland in Helsinki as Scotland made their way to Euro 96. Shearer scored the second Aberdeen goal in the 1995 League Cup Final against Dundee, after he had played his part in the Dons great escape in 1995 as a first ever relegation never materialised.

The striker moved to Inverness Caley Thistle in 1998 and was back at Pittodrie with Steve Paterson in 2003. Duncan currently manages Highland League outfit Buckie Thistle.
