bobby calder trophy

This trophy is named after Bobby Calder who was a scout with Aberdeen for many years and unearthed some great talent for the club. Prior to working for the Dons as a scout Bobby was a top class referee and it was he who took charge of the 1947 cup final when Aberdeen won their first major trophy.

The trophy was awarded annually to recognise a young player who had made progress throughout the season. Unfortunately this tradition petered out in the mid eighties amd this magnificent trophy was not awarded again until the youth development system was overhauled and it was reintroduced in 1994. In an age when the club relies heavily on young talent coming through the ranks it was seen as time to re-introduce the trophy into the AFC calendar. Each season throws up many candidates for the title and gives the judges a difficult decision but one worth taking as all our promising youngsters deserve the cudos of recognition.
