Orion, considerably to their own, and still more to their opponents', surprise, severely defeated Victoria United, and became the holders of the Gershon Cup. United had the advantage of playing on their own ground, which was filled by a large crowd of spectators. The ground players had the best of the opening passages, but were unable to prevail against the strong defence of Orion. Several rushes were made by the Orion forwards, and on one occasion they secured an easy goal. It was hoped by the United supporters, and even feared by those backing Orion, that the ground players would in the second half more than make up their leeway. The contrary, however, proved to be the case. Orion played with rare dash, and never allowed the home players to get properly into their swing. Goal after goal was added, James being prominent in scoring, and the game eventually ended: Orion 6, United 0.
