Aberdeenshire Cup Second Round
17/11/1894

Faithlie Thistle 1 - 10 Victoria United
Kick Off:
Attendance: 0
Venue: Bellslea Park, Fraserburgh
These teams met in the second round of the competition for the Aberdeenshire cup tie in Bellslea Park, Fraserburgh. There was a strong southerly gale, and as the Victoria United secured the toss they started with a great advantage. Of this the team were not slow to take advantage. Very soon after the ball was in play the Blues shot a nice goal. As was expected, they followed up their first success by adding several points in quick succession. The local representatives strained every nerve, seeing they could not assume the offensive, to protect their own goal, and some of them played a capital game. While the Thistle men could not - despite their best efforts - succeed in reaching the Victoria's goal, the strangers were steadily adding to their credit. Their game was swift, strong, and accurate, and at all points they played round the local men. At half-time the scores stood Victoria United, 8; Thistle, 0.

On changing ends it was thought that, with the wind in their favour, the Thistle's representatives would make a better appearance, and to some extent this proved to be the case, but nothing brilliant was done. With the aid of the fierce gale that was blowing, the local men after a time, by a good bit of play, secured a goal. In the first part of the second half the strangers seemed slightly off colour, but by and bye they warmed to their work, and gave a capital exhibition. Against the combined opposition of the local players and the gale, they forced the ball in grand style from one end of the field to the other, and converted the run into a goal. The local men at this point had the ball repeatedly in their opponents' territory, but their citadel proved impregnable to further assault. Shortly before time was called the strangers scored another goal, A one-sided game ended: Victoria United, 10 ; Thistle, 1.
