Chanonry Grounds were opened by a match between the senior city eleven and the Hibernians of Dundee. As in the case of the game at Cattofield, the wind prevented good play. Teams: Hibernians: Stewart; Murphy, Malloch; Kidd, Donnachie, Calligan; Leggat, McMahon, Reid, Kinsella, Brannon. Aberdeen ? Smyth; John Davidson, C. W. Mackie; Alexander, Joseph Davidson, Thomson; Turner, Taylor, J. Mackie, Gray, Carrol. Referee, Mr Christopher Davidson, Aberdeen. Winning the toss, the Aberdeen decided to defend the west goal with the wind in their favour. When the Hibernians kicked off there was only a fair attendance of spectators. Taken as a whole the match proved very uninteresting, only an occasional good individual piece of play breaking the dull monotony of a poor game. Half-time was called with no scoring on either side.
In the second period play was somewhat rough, and this ended in Leggat, one of the strangers' front rank, being ordered off the field. Leggat refused at first, but he was ultimately persuaded to quit. Shortly afterwards time was called with the score standing: Aberdeen, 2; Hibernians, 0.
