Plucky Fight of the Vics.
These teams met at the Victoria Bridge Grounds in a friendly game. Mr Peter Simpson, Victoria United, was referee. The Hearts played up strongly, and at half-time the scores stood - Heart of Midlothian 3, Victoria, United 1. The home team made a vigorous resistance in the second half, and ran up three goals. Then the play of the visitors became somewhat questionable, and the referee cautioned McDonald. The Heart of Midlothian gained their fourth goal, and the game finished - Heart of Midlothian 4, Victoria United 3.

At Victoria Bridge Grounds the Victoria United made a bold bid for victory in their match with the second string of the Heart of Midlothian The game was a pretty robust one, feeling running high when the tug-of-war came. Some of the players lost their tempers, and as a natural consequence play ruled rough. The local lads had hard lines, but considering the Hearts were playing as many as four backs towards the finish, the Blues did very well to play them to a goal (4-3). Some of the forwards, however, hung too long on the ball at times, a fault which must be given over if they mean to win matches against go-a-head, energetic southerns.
