Little doubt was entertained as to the result of the tie in the semi-final round of the county cup competition between Orion and Culter. The village club had the choice of ground, but being aware that their chances of victory against Orion either at Culter or Cattofield, were very small indeed, they had the good sense so consent to decide the tie at Orion Park, an arrangement by which both teams would benefit financially. The weather was dull and cold, but notwithstanding there was a fair turnout of spectators. The ground was in miserable condition, the rain having formed a number of miniature lakes on the field. As a result, the players had great difficulty in, maintaining their equilibrium, while good shooting was well nigh impossible. Mr James Philip was referee, and the players were: Culter - Coutts; G. Smith, Esson; J. Ritchie, MacDonald, Davidson; McIntosh, Ririe, Watson, P. Smith, T. Ritchie. Orion - McBean; Ross, James Low; Gordon, John Low, Dawson; M. McFarlane, A. McFarlane, Thom, Leggat, Hogg. From the commencement the game was uninteresting, Orion having clearly the best of matters. A. McFarlane was the first to open the scoring, and shortly afterwards Thom put on a second goal. A third point followed from a penalty kick, and before half time Thom and Gordon, had each added a goal. In the second period, Orion, having the advantage of the incline, were continually in Culter's quarters. The game took the form of shooting for goal, and again and again was Coutts beaten. Orion's total steadily mounted up until at the close the score stood Orion 18, Culter 0. Culter gave a miserable exhibition, as the score would readily indicate. Orion took matters easy and played a faultless game.
