These teams met in a Northern League fixture at Gayfield Park, Arbroath, on Saturday. The teams were: Arbroath - Strachan; Clark, Penny; Mathers, McGlashan, Ford; Leuchars, Stewart, Clark, Hutton, Guthrie. Aberdeen - Robertson; Catto, Williams; Jones, Henderson, Thomson; Thomson, Cable, Milne, Lenty, Gray. Aberdeen won the toss, and Arbroath kicked off. The home forwards essayed a run, but Catto returned, and the Aberdeen front line made a slight attack but Strachan cleared. Play for a time was in favour of the maroons, but Aberdeen kept up a good defence. Aberdeen broke away, and Thomson, with a swift low shot, beat Strachan. Arbroath had a run, reaching the Aberdeen goal, and a few shots were sent in, but nothing resulted. A foul to the Aberdeen let them get down, but the ball was sent past. After a spell of midfield play, Stewart scored for the maroons from a scrimmage. Shortly before half-time, Hutton put the home team on the lead. On resuming, Aberdeen dashed away, and looked like scoring, but Penny saved in the nick of time. The home forwards caught the ball and, Leuchars centring finely, Hutton scored a third goal. Play was now of a give-and-take nature, both goals being repeatedly visited, and on two occasions Arbroath scored. After this, the Aberdeen play greatly improved, but the forwards could not break through the home defence. Result: Arbroath, 5 goals; Aberdeen, 1.
