Northern League
13/03/1897

Victoria United 4 - 2 Orion
Kick Off:
Attendance: 0
Venue: Victoria Bridge, Aberdeen
The only game in Aberdeen was the Northern League fixture between the Orion and the Victoria United at Victoria Bridge Grounds. That the game had excited considerable interest was clearly evidenced by the large crowd that assembled. Teams: Orion - McBean; James Low, Ross; Currie, John Low, Dawson; M. McFarlane, Leggat, Thom, Duncan, Hogg. United - Findlay; McNeil, McConnachie; Morrice, Thornton, Annand; J. Burnett, Law, Burnett, A. Ritchie, R. Ritchie. Mr T. Scott, Montrose, was referee. When ends were changed the game stood 4-1 in favour of United. The game ended United 4, Orion 2. Ross played a poor game at back for the Orion, and the half-backs were not much better. In fact the whole team were off colour. On the United's side, Findlay and the backs and half-backs displayed good judgment in defence, while R. Ritchie and Low were the best of the forwards.
