 There were two changes to the Dons line up as Logan and Stockley came into the side, with Rooney and McGinn dropping out. Aberdeen were looking to get within a point of Rangers who currently sit in second place. To do that, they would have to get past Motherwell, who were looking to put some daylight between themselves and the relegation zone.
Shooting towards the Merkland Road End Aberdeen started the game brightly. The slick surface was helping them knock the ball about at pace, something they struggled to do on Saturday against Kilmarnock. On 4 minutes Shinnie played a great ball down the inside channel looking for the run of Pawlett. Peter got to the ball but was unable to control it. His moment had got himself into a promising position. A minute later Considine was booked for a foul on Ryan Bowman. There were no complaints from the Aberdeen
central defender. With just over 5 minutes played at Pittodrie, play was unfortunately stopped due to an issue with some of the floodlights inside the ground. With the pitch partly in darkness referee Alan Muir took the teams back to the dressing rooms. When the lights all came back on the players emerged 10 minutes or so later and after a brief warm up the play resumed.
As soon as the game restarted, within seconds, Stephen McManus was yellow carded for a strong challenge on Pawlett. Two minutes later there was another problem with the power as the lights went out again. The referee spoke to both teams and a decision was made. The floodlight failure forced the game to be abandoned.
Both yellow cards received will still count against both players, but as for everything else this fixture will go down as abandoned.
