Forfar dump out of touch dons
It was overcast as the game kicked off and it was a dreich opening from Aberdeen as Forfar took control of the early stages. Preece was called into action as early as the 2nd minute when he held a Paul Tosh header. The Dons keeper was back in action in the 10th minute making a fine double save at the edge of his box. Two minutes later the Dons had their first real chance when a McGuire daisy-cutter skimmed wide.

The home side grabbed the lead in the 14th minute when a Lowing shot beat Preece and nestled in the net via the keeper's right hand post. This woke the Dons side up and in the 16th minute the Forfar keeper did well to stop a Foster shot. Mackie followed up but sent his effort over the bar. The home side almost extended their lead in the 31st minute following a mix up between Deloumeaux and Preece, but as the half drew to a close Aberdeen started to take control. With Forfar being forced deeper, a nervy Dons midfield were unable to create much in the way of openings.

The Aberdeen defence was exposed in the 54th minute as Forfar extended their lead. Lunan worked his way down the right and fired over a cross, which found Davidson unmarked as he headed in the second goal. Aberdeen pulled a goal back in the 68th minute when a free kick launched into the box caused some paninc in the Forfar defence before Rutkiewicz turned the ball into the net. The Dons were unable to convert their late possession into any more goals and in the 71st minute Mackie went off injured and was replaced by Lombardi.
