McGuire Off as Brave Dons Beaten at Ibrox
Aberdeen put up a brave performance at Ibrox despite going down by one goal to nil. David Preece played on, despite picking up a facial injury midway through the second half. Darren Mackie showed some good touches when he came on, and had one superb run that only lacked a good strike.

The first real chance fell to the home side, when a good run from Sergio Porrini eventually found the head of Norwegian striker Tore Andre Flo, but the ex-Chelsea man's header went wide. Rangers opened the scoring in the 35th minute, when Tugay found the net from distance. His shot seemed to bobble over David Preece, giving the Don's keeper no chance. Aberdeen performed well in the first half without really creating any chances, but the team were at least holding their own against the league holders. Aberdeen's task was made that much harder when Phil McGuire was sent off for getting himself in an off the ball incident involving Ranger's Neil McCann. McCann was then himself sent off just minutes later, when he was given a second booking, this time for dissent.

The Don's continued to play well, Preece making some great saves despite his injury, and with Aberdeen having used all three subs already, his injury would have caused Ebbe Skovdahl another goalkeeping headache against Rangers.
Despite Darren Mackie's efforts, the Don's couldn't get the equaliser, and Rangers picked up all three points despite Aberdeen's good display.
