It was a disastrous afternoon at Pittodrie as a very young, Aberdeen Reserve side lost by seven goals. The games turning point came when Hallur Hannson conceded a penalty and was sent off on the half hour mark for what the referee judged to be a goal scoring opportunity. The score was only 1-0 at that point. At the same time all this was going on, the influential Peter Pawlett had taken a heavy knock and was off receiving treatment. Although he played on initially, he eventually limped off. The young Dons actually played some good football and continued to create chances but were exposed at the back by an experienced Hearts side.
