There were about 6000 spectators at Pittodrie last night, when, in their final test before opposing hile bee and rovers in the opening Scottish League game on Saturday, team from the Aberdeen Club defeated a select team from the Aberdeen Amateur League by 6 goals to 2. Aberdeen were without to Brewster, Hutton, and Connon, and Hannah appeared at centre half. Wilson, the Aberdeen forward, was included in the juniors' team that write half-back. Mr. Peter Craigmyle was referee, and the teams were:-
Aberdeen: Anderson; Hume, McRobbie; Wright, Hannah, McLaughlin; Wiseman, Cail, Macdonald, Robertson, Archibald.
Amateur Select: Adams; Small, Moir; Wilson, McBoyle, Grubb; Kirton, Stephen, Massey, Innes, Yule.
The game was strenuously contested, and although Aberdeen generally held the upper hand and were easy winners, the juniors played spiritedly throughout, and kept the seniors well in hand. At one period in the first half the juniors played up in irresistible style, and were rather unfortunate not to have scored on more than one occasion. As the game developed, the home team settled down, and although the juniors were nippy in their movements and harassed the opposing defence, they were well held, and the defence was gradually warmed down.
The scoring was opened by Robertson and Cail rushing the ball past Adams, after he had failed to hold, and Aberdeen increase their lead through Robertson, at a time when his side was handicapped by the temporary absence of Cail, who had sustained a face injury. After clever work by the junior forwards, Massie beat Anderson, and Aberdeen crossed over with a 2-1 lead.
Shortly after the resumption, Hume, in passing back to Anderson, put through his own goal, and subsequently McBoyle hit the upright, with a penalty kick awarded the juniors. After the Aberdeen goal had been frequently in danger, Aberdeen took the game in hand, and there were some clever individual and collective efforts. Accepting a nice pass from Cail, Macdonald scored for Aberdeen, and after the left wing had been prominent, he scored the other two goals, completing the "hat trick" on the second occasion beating two opponents before finding the net. Near the end, subsequent to a cross from Archibald, Cail scored the best goal of the match within unsavable shot. Aberdeen were best served by Hume, McRobbie, Hannah, McLaughlin, Macdonald, Cail, and Archibald, and the Juniors by their backs, Wilson, McBoyle, Stephen, Massie, and Innes.
