Dons Still Head Their League Cup Section
ABERDEEN are still leaders of their section in the League Cup competition. By defeating Partick Thistle at by odd goal in three, they are now two points ahead of Kilmarnock who come to Pittodrie on Saturday, and three ahead of Hibs and Partick Thistle.

A victory for the Dons over Kilmarnock will put them in a strong position.
It was real cup-tie football at Pittodrie on Saturday. It was the Thistle's aim to prevent Aberdeen from winning at all costs, and they put any amount of brawn into their work. That the team did not get one of the points was entirely their own fault. Five minutes from time, with the score at in 2-1 the Dons favour, Thistle were awarded a penalty, McKennan, who got the visitors' only goal from a free kick in the first half, failed from the spot, the ball travelling very wide of the goal.
George Hamilton had both Aberdeen goals, his first in particular being a great effort.
On the whole, however, the Dons were just a little lucky to win both points.
In the first half-hour they were uneasy. The defence was far from steady. Thistle were full of fight all the time and never gave up trying to the last.

Missed Chances

It was only in the second period that Aberdeen touched anything like their real form, and then they missed scoring chances.
Henderson was reliable in the Aberdeen goal, but it was not until the second half that Cowie found his game at back. Taylor was the best of the halves, and forward the outstanding man was Hamilton, who received a severe buffeting from the opposition. Kiddie also had a good game.
Baird's play suffered in the first half through concentrating on trying to stop McKennan.
The Dons have their work cut out get a point in the second game betwee the teams at Firhill. The Thistle are tough lot.
