Easy Win Over Hamilton in Game at Douglas Park

ABERDEEN qualified with no difficulty in their Victory Cup first-round tie against Hamilton Academicals at Douglas Park last night.
Although - as in the first leg at Pittodrie - the Dons only scored twice, they were the vastly superior team.
Clachnacuddin, who drew 2-2 with Partick Thistle in the first leg at Inverness last Saturday, were beaten 7-1 at Firhill.

The Dons' 2-0 win in no way represented their superiority. The defence was always confident and never in difficulties. The half-backs, with Taylor easily the outstanding player afield, never lost their hold on the home attack, while the forwards played very fine football at times.
The Dons got off to a great start, Baird heading home from a perfect Kiddie cross.
Darge had a chance of equalising for the homesters but shot over the crossbar.
Accies should have been on level terms when Steele was left with only Johnstone to beat, but he made poor use the opportunity.
The Pittodrie forwards combined well and it was more by desperate work than good play that the home defence prevented them from going further ahead. Williams and McCall both were near with creditable tries, and Kiddie tested Campbell with a fierce drive.
Johnstone had his first real save in twenty-five minutes.
Accies made a terrible mess of what chances came their way.

Campbell Brilliant

Cameron failed from five yards range. Campbell stood between Aberdeen and more goals. He saved brilliantly from Pattillo on one occasion.
On resuming Steele and Darge changed places in the Hamilton attack. Hamilton should have counted for the Dons when Campbell dropped the ball in the goalmouth, but he was too slow in shooting, and Campbell retrieved the position.
Later it required a full-length save by Campbell to prevent a shot by Hamilton entering the net.
In the last minute Williams scored a second goal for the Dons from a McCall cross.
