Forres Mechanics Good Fight at Pittodrie
For a considerable time on Saturday it looked as if Forres Mechanics were to break Aberdeen A's unbeaten record in the Highland League. The match was played at Pittodrie, and, though the opening stages suggested that the locals were not to be hard pushed for the points, the visitors, after a spell of shakiness, settled down to a hard-going game. Then they gained confidence from a well-taken goal, and defied persistent pressure in sturdy style. Palmer saved a number of likely shots, and his backs never shirked their work when the ball was swung in upon the goal. Their halves were scarcely seen to the same advantage, but the forwards shaped dangerously when they got on the move. Grant, the ex-Partick Thistle pivot, was always prominent with sharp, forceful tactics. The second half was seven minutes gone before the equaliser fell to the homesters, and immediately thereafter they took the lead. They had the better of matters to the end, and before the finish, McIntosh again beat Palmer. The centre performed the hat-trick. The visitors finished without Leslie, who had to retire injured, but the figures were a fair criterion of the play. The home backs were none too reliable. The halves were triers all the time, with no stars in the line. Brewster is a glutton for work, and the same may be said of Martin. The forwards were the best division. Grant and Munro were the pick of the Forres van.
