Orion 2 - 5 Leith Athletic
Kick Off:  2:30 PM   Whitehead, ?
Attendance: 0
Venue: Central Park, Aberdeen
At Central Park, Kittybrewster, before a large turnout of spectators. Immediately after the start the strangers were hovering around their opponents' goal, and in three minutes they secured their first point, followed ten minutes later by a second from a corner kick. Nettled by these reverses, Orion played with considerable dash, and, the forwards working the ball well up the hill, Whitehead sent it through. From the kick off the Leith men returned to the attack, but for a time their efforts to score were thwarted. Eventually they secured a throw in near the goal, and, the ball being landed into the goal mouth, it was neatly headed through. A little later a fourth goal was scored in a similar manner from a foul kick. The first half ended: Leith Athletic, 4; Orion, 1.
With the incline in their favour, Orion for some time after the commencement of the second period had the best of the play. Only once, however, did they score, and that owing to a mistake on the part of the Leith goalkeeper. Under the impression that the ball would roll past, he quietly stepped aside, but to his amazement, and the merriment of the spectators, it went past the inside of the post. After this, the Leith players by grand combination assumed the upper hand, and for some time kept peppering away at goal. Lowe, however, saved his charge in fine style, and he received great assistance from the back division. The result was that only one shot went through, and that after the ball had been returned into play several times. Orion occasionally broke away, but no further scoring took place, and the game ended in favour of the Athletic by five goals to two.
Orion were playing against great odds all through. The forwards nearly always fell off at the goal mouth, whereas the shooting of the strangers was most deadly, and this in a great measure accounted for their success.
