At Chanonry, to witness the first round of the Aberdeenshire Cup competition, there was a fair turnout of spectators. The homesters pressed on kicking off, but were repulsed. Against their more experienced opponents the strangers showed up wonderfully, and were often troublesome. Play was at times on the rough side, the players labouring under excitement. For a time the Whites hemmed in their opponents, but were unfortunate in front of goal. Chance after chance was lost, and it seemed as if the locals were never to score. Ultimately, however, a good run ended in a goal being secured amid cheers. Encouraged, the home men warmed to their work, and another point fell to them. Stonehaven then made several gallant efforts to score, and before change of ends they managed to elude Ritchie. At half-time the scores were: Aberdeen 2, Stonehaven 1. The second period was stubbornly contested. Both teams played hard, but erratically. Aberdeen scored twice, and the strangers once. Result: Aberdeen 4, Stonehaven 2.
