Arbroath 3 - 4 The Aberdeen
Kick Off:          Key, ?, ?, ?
Attendance: 0
Venue: Gayfield Park, Arbroath
A Pleasant Result.
These teams met at Gayfield on Saturday afternoon in presence of a large number of spectators. Aberdeen kicked off, and immediately invaded. After several warm attacks by the home men, the strangers organised a run, but Milne saved. A corner resulted, but Aberdeen seized the ball and got into their opponents' territory, where the ball was ultimately sent out of play. Soon after Findlay drew first blood for the Arbroath. Not to be denied, however, the strangers took up the aggressive, and at last Key succeeded in equalising. After some play in mid-field Aberdeen, by a well concerted ran, secured another goal. Both teams pressed, but finally Willocks succeeded in putting the game on an equal footing. At half-time the score stood: Aberdeen, 2; Arbroath, 2.
Soon after the resumption of play a foul fell to the Aberdeen, and the ball being well placed by Wood, was headed through for a third time. The home team retaliated, and secured an equalising point. A little before the call of time Aberdeen put on the fourth and winning point, and when time was called the scores stood: Aberdeen, 4; Arbroath, 3.

These teams met on Gayfield Park, Arbroath, on Saturday, in the contest for the Northern League championship. There was a fair attendance. Aberdeen kicked off, and after some fine play the home team scored, Findlay sending the ball through. Soon afterwards Aberdeen scored twice. Thereafter Arbroath pulled up, and the pressure was confined to the Aberdeen territory, and ended in the scores being equalised only a minute or two ere time was called. The scores were 2 each.
Ends being changed, Aberdeen put on the pressure on the home goal. Out of a foul they again scored, making 3 to 2. They were soon followed up by the home team, who again equalised. The spectators now became highly interested as to turning the scale, and every move was watched with anxiety, while every encouragement in the shape of applause was awarded the home team, but in vain, for Aberdeen, getting down upon the home goal, secured a point, and when time was called the result was as under: Aberdeen, 4 ; Arbroath, 3.

Dundee Courier, 9th May 1892

The Aberdeen lads distinguished themselves at Arbroath on Saturday, when they defeated the Maroons on their "ain midden heid " by 4 goals to 3. The victory was a narrow one, but still a most meritorious performance, and we congratulate the whites all round on the result, and only hope that they will be as successful when next they meet the southerner.
