An interesting game was witnessed between these teams at Central Park, Kittybrewster. There was a large attendance. The Orion put a full team into the field with the exception of Lumsden, whose place at goal was taken by Law. This was the weakest spot in the eleven. From the kick-off the Port-Glasgow men assumed the aggressive, and continued to press throughout the first-half. When the game was about fifteen minutes old, the strangers opened the scoring. The Orion were able to offer but feeble resistance to the attacks of their opponents' front rank, and scarcely ever broke away. Goal after goal was put on by the Port Glasgow players, as Law at goal was well-nigh helpless in defending his charge. On changing ends, the Orion had a leeway of seven goals to make up, and they began encouragingly. A good run up the field was made, and the strangers' goalkeeper being enticed to leave his ground, the first and only point was secured by the Orion. The Athletics continued to play a steady frame, and making their way to their opponents' territory, the eighth goal was notched. The game soon after ended: Port-Glasgow , Athletics, 8; Orion, 1.
