Teams representing these clubs met at Chanonry in the semi-final of the Charily Cup. An enormous crowd lined the ropes. The teams were: Victoria United: Gray; Anderson, Ririe; Ross, Stewart, Ritchie; Turner, Benzie, Sutherland, Annand, Ferries. Orion: Edwards; Foote, Mackay; Johnstone, Ross, Wright; Fraser, Macfarlane, Gloag, Gardner, Leggat.
For the first ten minutes or so the Blues considerably harassed their opponents, and Benzie, about five minutes from the commencement, scored the first point in the game. The Stripes subsequently made their way up the field, but they could make no impression on the defence of the United, who, again rushing along the length of the field, were quickly within shooting distance. Turner scored a second goal. A spell of stiff play on the part of both sides was crowned for the Vics by a third goal, Ferries on this occasion doing the needful. The play continued to be much in favour of the Wellington Ground men; indeed, it was with the utmost difficulty that the Stripes could maintain themselves in the Vic's territory for any length of time. Ferries sent a stinging shot in the direction of Edwards, and to the delight of the United followers the ball passed between the uprights. But the player had been off-sides, and the referee ruled accordingly. The first half ended: Victoria United 3 goals, Orion 0.
As the second half advanced it was evident it was to be a repetition of the first period. The Vics, had all the play, and matters were made worse for the Orion when Edwards, the goalkeeper, was so severely injured that he had to leave the field. Mackay acted as substitute, but Edwards' reappearance some time afterwards was greeted with applause. Mackay then took up his own position, where he was much needed. After half an hour's play Benzie registered a fourth point, and this closed the scoring, the game ending: Victoria United 4 goals, Orion 0. Source: Aberdeen Journal, 8th May 1893
