Played at Central Park before a large turnout of onlookers. The teams were: Orion: James; Ross, Mackay; Wight, Ritchie, Currie; Black, Thom, Gloag, Forsyth, Leggat. Hawthorn: Stephen; Kemp, Alexander; Lamb, Gordon, McKay; Webster, Elliot, Oliphant, Massie, Watt. Mr A. Aitchison was referee.
The Hawthorn kicked off down hill, and instantly began to press. For some time the Orion back division had a hot time of it, but James kept his charge intact, till from a pass from Lamb, Elliot sent home an effective shot. The Orion now wakened up to their position and assumed the aggressive. The visitors were often sorely pressed, but the goalkeeper managed to fist out the many shots. Ultimately Thom picked up a pass from Leggat, and, finding an opening, scored the first goal for his team. Points followed quickly, and at half-time the score stood: Orion 4, Hawthorn 1.
In the second half the visitors seemed done out, and seldom got past midfield. The home team continued their victorious career, and a very one sided game ended: Orion 9, Hawthorn 1.
