match report 1916-17 fixture list
Div 1 (Old)
Hibernian 3 - 3 Aberdeen
Kick Off:    Miller, Paterson, Campbell       Jackson, Main, Main.
Attendance: 6,500
Venue: Easter Road, Edinburgh
Before about 3000 spectators, a curious game was played at Easter Road, Edinburgh. The visiting team, Aberdeen, were unfortunate in having players injured. Three had to go off the field during the game, and though two of them, Wylie, outside left, and Anderson, the goalkeeper, were able to return after a brief absence. Moir, one of the backs, was away for the greater part of the match, having hurt a knee. Prior to that Miller had scored for the Hibernians the only goal of the first half, and early in the second half, when Aberdeen were playing nine men against eleven, both Paterson, of the Hibernians, and Jackson, Aberdeen, scored from far out. Then Main put on a couple of goals for Aberdeen, which gave them the lead, but before the end Campbell rushed in on Anderson when he was lying on the ground, and kicked the ball out of his hands into the net, thereby equalising the scores. It was at this point that the goalkeeper was hurt. A draw was quite a good result. The Hibernians had the worse of the weather, and in the second half had to face a storm of wind and rain.

Jackson and Main were in the Aberdeen side which turned out against Hibs in wretched weather at Easter Road, and as it turned out the pair, with Anderson, had a big hand in the draw. Hibs' started well, and Miller scored. Aberdeen tried hard for the equaliser. Moir, the left back, was taken off and an able to resume. Jackson took his place, and Main dropped in to centre half. Anderson was in fine form. After the resumption Willie Wylie had also to go to the pavilion, and while he was absent Hibs got another point. Jackson reduced the leeway, and after Wylie returned Main got the equaliser, and then gave the Wasps the lead. Campbell scored another for Hibs, who had to play all the new to save a point.
