About 500 turned out at Pittodrie yesterday forenoon to see teams representative of Aberdeen and 3rd Gordon Highlanders play in aid of local war funds. The weather was very warm - indeed, rather warm for football - but an interesting game was witnessed. The soldiers played the more spirited football, they were the better balanced side, and if scarcely worth their 5-1 victory, they deserved to win. Playing against the sun, but with the wind, in the first half, the Gay Gordons were the more aggressive, but it was very near half-time before they managed to score, Risk, after a great run in which he eluded Chatwin and Younie, gave Paton a chance which was not allowed to go. Gallacher added a second shortly afterwards, and the Gordons crossed over with a two-goal lead.

The Aberdeen front line improved. Gallacher had again netted before McLeod opened Aberdeen's account from a grand centre by Duff, but the Pittodrie attack continued to shape so well that it was all odds on their giving the soldiers a close run after all. Shanley saved several fine tries. Duff was in fine form, and McLeod was never far away. The Gordons' defence was resolute, and the dashes by their forwards were always dangerous. Cumming converted a fine ball from risk, and then had one on his own, so that the Gordons in the end when comfortably. Cumming did little all afternoon beyond getting the two goals, but Mackay and Payton repeated their fine form against Rangers, and Gallacher and Risk were also a strong wing, the latter's solo rushes being a feature of the game. The rest of the side was solid, with every man as good as his neighbour. On the Aberdeen side, Younie, Moir, Brewster, Duff, McLeod, and Cruikshank were the pick.

The Gordons' Regimental pipe and brass band played selections before the match and at the half-time interval.
