Neil takes over the reserves

For Neil Cooper, one of the most encouraging aspects of the young Dons' programme in the weeks since he took over the supervision of the reserve squad from Willie Miller following the latter's appointment as club manager, has been Andy Gibson resuming his role as ace marksman.
The former Stirling striker, who scored 20 goals, including two hat-tricks, before breaking a bone in his foot in November, returned to acton in an East Reserve League game against Montrose at the beginning of February and immediately demonstrated his scoring talent was undiminished with a goal in his comeback game.
He followed this by scoring in Aberdeen's Reserve League Cup quarter-final victory over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park, and again in an East Reserve League meeting with Dunfermline at Pittodrie two days later. He then claimed both goals in a 2-0 home Premier Reserve League win over Rangers.
The start to Neil's term in charge was not too auspicious with defeats against Hibernian and Dunfermline being compounded by Neil himself suffering an injury after only five minutes of the Dunfermline game, but these disappointments were more than counterbalanced by a combination of Gibson's promising scoring form and the club's progress into the semi-final stages of both the Gray & Adams Aberdeenshire Cup and the Reserve League Cup.
