The return match between these teams in the Northern League competition was played on Links Park, Montrose, in dull weather before a fair attendance of spectators. At their first meeting at Aberdeen this season the Central Park eleven had an easy victory. Montrose placed a rearranged team on the field, A. Bowman, A. Stephen, and McLean again appearing in the ranks, and Jackson and Watson being in different positions. Montrose: A. Bowman; G. Bowman, Duncan; Lamb, Davidson, McLean; Murray, Inglis; Stephen; Watson, Jackson. Aberdeen: Ritchie; Davidson, McConnachie, Mackie, Henderson, Thomson; Livingstone, Linton; Fullerton; Gray, Shiach. Referee Mr Gorman, Paisley.
The Aberdeen won the toss, and kicked off to¬wards the west goal. McLean put in two fine shots for Montrose, but they were caught by the goalkeeper. A foul was granted Aberdeen be¬side the goal, but proved fruitless. A scrimmage in front of the Montrose goal was almost successful, but Bowman saved at the expense of a corner, from which nothing resulted. The ball was taken to the other end, where defective shooting was again witnessed. A combined, attack by the Aberdeen forwards was successful, Livingstone putting on the first point from the outside right. Half-time was sounded immediately thereafter.
On crossing over, the home team made a determined attack on the Aberdeen goal, and from the right Murray equalised. Shiach, from the outside left, put the Aberdeen once more in the lead by a swift, low shot. This was in¬creased by Gray shooting splendidly from the inside left. Montrose, from shortly after the commencement of the second half, had been playing ten men, Smith having had his ankle injured. There was no more scoring, and the game ended: Aberdeen 3, Montrose 1.
