Victoria United 0 - 2 The Aberdeen

HT Score: Victoria United 0 - 0 The Aberdeen

Friendly

08/04/1899 | KO:

An ordinary match between these teams was played at Torry Bridge Grounds. The teams were as follows: Aberdeen: Ritchie; Mackie, Raitt; Jamieson, Henderson, Thomson; Shiach, Gray, Mackay, Linton, Livingstone. Vics: Findlay; Kilgour, Thain; Low, McHardy, Thomson; McKenzie, Gardner, Durie, Watson, Ritchie. Mr Watt, Orion; was referee. As will be seen, the Aberdeen had substitutes for Fullarton, McConnochie, and Davidson. On the Victoria side, McHardy, who was well known on the right wing, played at centre half, and McKenzie, who formerly filled the latter position, was placed on the outside right. Durie made his first appearance as centre forward, and Low occupied Dundas?s place as right halfback. No scoring took place in the first half. After the interval the Aberdeen scored twice.

Is there to be no finish to this continual meeting of local clubs, Week after week local followers of the game are expected to turn up in their thousands to witness the continuation of the game of the preceeding Saturday. We were pleased that there was a poor turn-out at Torry on Saturday. Meagre gates are the only thing to stop this trifling with the public. For our part we would prefer spending the afternoon on the Links, where we could at least see some new faces, and not that same old 22 continually kicking the ball. As all know the Aberdeen won a decidedly poor game by 2-0, though it should not be forgotten that the Vics played only ten men for the better half of the game.
