These teams met for their Northern League fixture at Pittodrie Park, Aberdeen, before a comparatively small turnout of spectators. The teams were: Montrose: W. Allan; D. Allan, Anderson; Lamb, Irvine, Arbuthnott; Smith, Ogg, A. Ferrier, H. Ferrier, Inglis. Aberdeen: Bisset; Skene, Mackie; Cameron, Henderson, Thomson; McIntosh, Mackay, Fullerton, Stuart, Shiach. Mr McArthur, Stirling, acted as referee. Aberdeen forced the game at the start, and in a very few minutes had secured a couple of goals. The first was scored by Fullerton, after a rather smart bit of play, while the second fell to Shiach. who got a clever pass from Mackay. The remainder of the first half was marked by successive attacks on each side, but all were fruitless.

On resuming, Aberdeen again forced the pace and Mackay, after a rapid run down, scored the third goal for his side. A spell of dull play followed till the close, when Montrose, becoming more active, secured a couple of goals in quick succession. The first was obtained by Hugh Ferrier, and the second by Smith, both being sent in from close quarters after a scrimmage.

It was only a few weeks ago that Aberdeen beat Montrose by 5-2, and though the Aberdeen were again successful on Saturday they had to play their hardest to keep the visitors from - if not winning - at least drawing. The game was not one that we can get enthusiastic over, it was so dreadfully dull during the major part of it. On the whole, however, the Aberdeen deserved to win, their play being, if anything, superior to the Montrose.
The first goal that Aberdeen got would have been saved had the goalkeeper not fallen while rushing from one corner to another to save. The second goal, however, was well played for and thoroughly deserved. The defence on both sides had plenty to do, and the Aberdeen came through the ordeal best.

Montrose tried hard at the beginning of the second half to make up the leeway, but were repulsed on every occasion, and the "Whites" getting the ball at their own goal, from a Montrose invasion, rushed up the field, and McKay, with the best shot of the day, put his team three up. For a good time after it looked as if Montrose would not get a goal, but everything comes to him that waits, and after a deal of waiting the Montrose scored, and followed up number one by scoring another from the kick-off. This had the effect of making things livelier, and it was badly needed. Montrose strove hard for the equaliser, but the Aberdeen backs were steady, and to the end they kept Montrose out, and won the match for their side by 3-2.
We were not at all pleased with the form shown by Aberdeen. They were all very much off colour, and gave but a poor show. Bisset pleased a section of the crowd - his friends, we suppose - by a grand exhibition of gallery play. The committee should put their foot down on this practice. Wilson occupied a seat on the stand.
The Montrose were the inferior team certainly, but they are vastly improved from what they were a few weeks ago. Their forwards were far speedier than ours.
