The Aberdeen 3 - 1 Dundee Wanderers

HT Score: The Aberdeen 2 - 1 Dundee Wanderers

Friendly
The Aberdeen scorers: Gray, Livingstone, Cameron
Dundee Wanderers scorers: Graham

13/01/1900 | KO:

Played at Pittodrie Park before a large attendance of spectators. The teams lined up as follows: Aberdeen: Bisset; Mackie, Douglas; Cameron, Thomson, Drummond; Fullarton, Cable, Livingstone, Gray, Shiach. Wanderers: Ross; Robertson, Gray; Neave, Gowans, McGee; McLean, McInroy, Johnstone, Graham, McColl. Mr Hendry, Linthouse, was referee. Aberdeen started with the wind in their favour. Shiach and Gray played with great accuracy, and caused the visitors' custodian a great deal of trouble. At last they obtained success, Gray, who accepted a nice pass from Shiach, sending the ball into the net. Soon afterwards Graham equalised, but before half-time Livingstone gave the home team the lead. In the second stage of the game Cameron registered a beautiful goal for the Aberdeen, Ross having no chance to save. Play was stopped ten minutes before time, owing to the darkness, and the Wanderers protested. The score, when the referee blew his whistle, was: Aberdeen, 3; Dundee Wanderers, 1.

Hard lines is too mild an expression to use in regard to this fixture. That the Aberdeen should have lead up to close on time, and then to be robbed of the two points is distinctly aggravating. May they defeat the Wanderers when the match comes to be replayed. The result was a distinct send-back to the Wanderers, who of late have been looking forward - and justly so - as the leaders of the league for this season. The "shuffling" of the Aberdeen team had a better effect than was thought likely. The Aberdeen committee would be well advised if they left the team as it played on Saturday for some time. Already the Whites have suffered dearly by changes, but we cannot help complimenting them on their last selection. In the first half the game was certainly the Aberdeen's, and their forwards made it so by skilful combination, and never losing a chance of shooting for goal. The second half was more evenly contested, but the Aberdeen had always the best of matters - the quick speed at which their forwards travelled fairly nonplussing the Wanderers' defence. The destination of the flag is not yet settled, and if the Aberdeen can but keep up their Saturday's form we may yet have to witness the unfurling ceremony at Pittodrie Park.
