The Aberdeen scorers: Maitland
Victoria United scorers: Duncan, ?

01/01/1901 | KO:

This holiday fixture was played at Pittodrie Park yesterday afternoon in fine football weather, although the pitch was somewhat soft. There was only a fair attendance of spectators.

Aberdeen Kicked off, but before the forwards had a chance to get away the United were on the ball, and carried it towards Bisset's charge. Duncan had a nice drive, but it was quickly returned to the custodian. The United had most of the play, the Whites only having occasional raids. principally made by Shiach and Gray, but these were usually of short duration, and easily checked. The Whites made a combined rush, however, and succeeded in beating Hannah, Maitland doing the needful. The United made strenuous attempts to equalise, but the shooting at the goalmouth was too reckless, and many likely chances were spoiled. Bisset was in good form, and prevented any attempt to score. The Whites had a splendid run along the right wing, but the attack was returned with still greater energy, and Duncan equalised in fine style. Repeated efforts at further scoring were frustrated.

in the second half play was less unequal, neither team having the advantage. Some fine play took place near to Hannah's charge, but that player managed to ward off all the attacks. Play was transferred to the opposite end of the field, but Bisset was equally stubborn, and allowed nothing to pass him. The shooting of the Aberdeen forwards was weak. Shortly before time the United scored a second goal.
