At Cattofield the Aberdeen and Orion teams engaged in their return league match. Considerable interest was taken in this fixture owing to the fact that both teams, along with Dundee A, are in the running for the championship. There was a large crowd of spectators, and the weather was all that could be desired. Teams:- Aberdeen: Bisset; Douglas, Mackie; Sangster, Thomson, Brown; Brodie, Davidson, C. Mackie, Fullerton, Massey. Orion: Ritchie; Thomson, Ross; Currie, Willox, Grant; Thomson, Lindsey, Barron, Prophet, Ritchie. Referee - Mr. Liddle, Beath.
Aberdeen started off up the hill, and immediately got into close quarters, but the ball went out of play. End to end play followed, nether side showing much to advantage. From midfield the Orion forwards next rushed the ball down the field in fine style, and from a scrimmage in front of the Aberdeen goal, Prophet scored. Aberdeen now pressed vigorously, and Ritchie was several times tested. The shooting of the Pittodrie team was extremely erratic, snd several splendid opportunities were thrown away. At last success attended the efforts of the Whites. From a corner Brodie crossed beautifully and Davidson, getting possession, banged the ball into the net. Just before half-time Prophet headed through a second goal for Orion.
The second half opened somewhat quietly, play ruling for a time in midfield. By good passing tactics the Orion forwards, however, worked the ball towards Bisset, and Lindsay succeeded in finding the net with a hot shot close in. The rest of the second half was fairly evenly contested, but the display of both teams was of the poorest description. Towards the close Aberdeen strove hard to reduce the Orion's lead, but in this they were unsuccessful
