On Saturday afternoon, for the second week in succession, the Aberdeen and Victoria United teams met, this time in a Northern League fixture, and the venue was Pittodrie Park. There was a large attendance, and the weather was all that could be desired. The teams were:- Aberdeen: Bisset, O'Brien, J. Mackie; Douglas, Thomson, Robertson; Brash, C. Mackie, Adam, Davidson, Fullerton. Victoria United: Morrison; Kilgour, R. Craig; Kitson, A. Murray, R. Ritchie; Knowles, Duncan, Taylor, Ferries, G. Ritchie.
The United started off towards the city, but the homesters assumed the aggressive at once, and got down in front of the United goal. The ball, however, went out of play. A spell of end-to-end play followed, both goals havng narrow escapes. A breakaway by the Aberdeen forwards resulted in C. Mackie scoring from a pass by Fullerton. Nettled at this early reverse, the United woke up, and played with great determination. Success at last attended their efforts, Kitson beating Bisset with a long shot. Brash bested Morrison with a rattling shot from the left wing, whilst the latter just managed to save at the expense of a corner. By goof passing tactics the United again got down, and scored, G. Ritchie finding the net with a swift shot. Once more Aberdeen took up the running, and C. Mackie picking up a fine cross pass by Fullerton, rushed the ball into the net. Once more on an equal footing, both teams strove for the lead, and the game became very fast and exciting.
On resuming Aberdeen immediately got into close quarters and forced a corner. The United, however, were determined to score, and it was not long before the ball was again got through in the midst of a scrimmage. Aberdeen strove hard to equalise, and hadrepeatedly hard lines in not scoring. A keenly contested game ended in a win for the United - their first in the Northern league competitions [this season].
