Young Dons Let Hearts Of Hook
Unfortunately the form guide was rather less impressive when a re-arranged fixture programme indicated that the second team played Hearts again the following week.
This was on the Wednesday of the international in Glasgow and ended in a 1-1 draw at Tynecastle.
"It was a poor sort of game with no atmosphere about the place because so many people had gone across to the World Cup tie," said Teddy Scott.
Dons turned out a locally different team with a forward line comprising Gray, Simpson, Van Der Ark, Dodds and Hewitt, strong on paper but on the day it didn't work out that way. Even so it should have completed an Aberdeen double over the Edinburgh club when Hewitt set up and early lead.
The 1-0 scoreline survived into the last minute when some sloppy defensive play allowed a goal after a free kick which ought to have been cleared.
