Dons Wright on the Money with Six Appeal in Glasgow

For the final SPFL Premiership game of the season the manager made two changes with Jonny Hayes and Scott Wright coming into the side for the suspended Jayden Stockley and Graeme Shinnie, who is a booking away from a suspension at the start of next season, was given a place on the bench.

In the early stages Ryan Christie took a head knock whilst Kenny McLean fired a shot over in the third minute. Thankfully Ryan was ok to continue. In the sixth minute Scott Wight on the left did well to win a free kick. Hayes played over a superb ball which keeper Ridgers could not come for and the defence struggled to deal with. The ball fell kindly for Christie and he riffled a shot past the keeper with the outside of his foot. A great hit from Ryan.

A few minutes later the Dons should have done better when they had a three on three situation.
Then a mistake by Logan gave a shooting chance for Chris Erskine on the edge of area but he pulled his shot just wide.

Aberdeen won the first corner of the game on ten minutes. Hayes' ball in again was not cleared by the Partick defence and O'Connor and McLean both had shots blocked. The ball was eventually played back to McLean who curled in a superb cross which Taylor headed off the bar. Although there were a crowd of players in the six yard box Scott Wright managed to fire a shot low into the corner for his first ever Aberdeen goal. It was a great finish. The reaction of his team mates when congratulating Scott showed just how popular a goal in was.

Last man Ash Taylor was forced to give away a corner before Aberdeen grabbed a third in the 16th minute. McLean, pulling the strings in the middle of the park, had space and time in the Partick half. Kenny popped a perfectly timed ball wide to Wright who was now on the right flank. The youngster was able to run onto the pass and fired a first time low shot past the keeper at his near post. Another great goal. He has had to be patient this season but Scott was certainly taking his chance today.

What a start for the Dons who looked like scoring every time they went forward.

In the 21st minute Ade Azeez was once again one on one with Taylor after a ball over the top and again the centre half did very well. The Thistle striker then had an even better chance a minute later after slack play by the Dons. He was played in on the left hand side of the area and his shot across Lewis was very well saved whilst Considine was quick to react to help out his keeper. Despite being 3-0 up the manager was less than impressed with the slackness.

In the 25th minute it was 4-0. Scott Wright started the move on the right and played the ball back to Logan. Shay burst onto the ball at pace and after playing a one two with McLean the right back produced a good run and cross which was dummied brilliantly by Rooney and Hayes following in behind swept the ball home. A great team goal.

A few minutes later Logan almost grabbed a fifth at the back post. He controlled a deep cross and stepped inside but his shot was blocked.

On the half hour mark more brilliant wing play from Wright. His left the right back for dead before crossing for Christie who was taken out in the area. It looked a strong penalty shout but Euan Anderson decided as against it.

The referee on 34 minutes did give a free kick when Hayes was brought down on the edge of the area. McLean took it but his effort was always going over. In the 37th minute Wright, who popped up again now on the left, had space to run at Ryan Edwards. Scott beat him all ends up and produced another fine cross which Rooney got a touch to and but the Thistle defence managed to clear the danger after making a couple of blocks.

Edwards a few minutes later almost pulled a goal back when his free kick from all of 40 yards looked to be sailing into the top corner after Lewis had positioned himself for a cross but the keeper showed good feet to get across his line and tip the ball over.

The Dons then had a four on three after another lightening break but when they had numbers free on the right the ball went to the left which allowed defenders time to get back. In 41st minute Taylor again did really well to block a Azeez shot. In the 43rd minute Considine was booked for a foul midway inside the Dons half. After defending a free kick and a corner there was another chance on the break but Christie could not quite find Rooney with his cross. Aberdeen then did grab a fifth when Wright played a forward ball to Considine who crossed for Christie. Ryan on the edge of the area produced a quite stunning finish to hammer a first time shot with his left foot past Ridgers. It was incredible technique and once again showed his ability.

An outstanding first 45 minutes with five fantastic finishes.

Half time: Partick Thistle 0 Aberdeen 5

During the interval Kenny McLean and Mark Reynolds were withdrawn and replaced by Ryan Jack and Peter Pawlett. Anthony O'Connor moved back into central defence. On 49 minutes Christie and Hayes combined but Jonny from a tight angle could only find the side netting.

On 51 minutes incredible scenes as Scott Wright completed his hat-trick when a shot from the edge of the area was deflected past Ridgers and landed in the net. Substitute Graeme Shinnie was the first to congratulate his fellow Balmedie boy, closely followed by every single one of his team mates. In only his second ever start, the highly rated winger had got a hat-trick.

Five minutes after that a delightful move involving Jack, Pawlett and Wright set Christie free and his shot across the goal went only inches wide. Pawlett was then booked for a dive inside the area when he was just away to shoot. There certainly appeared to be contact. Wright was almost in for a fourth but Logan's pass was only slightly under hit. Then O'Connor produced a mazy run into the area but was penalised for a foul.

The Dons were producing another great performance on a good pitch that allowed them to pass the ball.

Just after the hour mark Azeez had a chance to pull a goal back when he outpaced O'Connor but Lewis produced a great save.

After 65 minutes Jonny Hayes was withdrawn and replaced by Frank Ross. On 67 minutes a deep Wright cross was palmed clear by the keeper just as Rooney was about to pounce.

Substitute Mark Lamont was booked for a rash challenge on Scott Wright. He was the first Thistle player to get close enough to tackle Scott all afternoon. Frank Ross then had a couple of shots inside the area, the second of which forced Ridgers into a smart stop.

Credit to the Thistle fans who stayed to support their team and the players responded with a good spell but the Dons defence were desperate to keep a clean sheet.

With ten minutes to go Christie fired another shot just across the face of goal and a Ryan Jack shot was saved by the keeper. Frank Ross then swung in a good cross but it was just too high for Rooney.

By now the tempo of the game had dropped. The Dons had taken their foot off the gas and the players were happy to see out the game before the 1,287 Aberdeen fans gave the players a standing ovation at the end.
