The match kicked off in the midst of a hailstorm and it took the visitors only twenty seconds to take the lead. A fine pass from Brandon was flicked on by Roy for Currie to curl a delightful left footed effort past Craddock from the edge of the area.
It took the dons only five minutes to draw level as Storey slipped the ball into the path of Dean Campbell who showed great poise to beat a defender then drive the ball past Mason ? a fine goal from the youngster.
After Mason had blocked well from Myles Storey, the Hearts keeper almost set up a goal for Ali Roy who raced clear after a fine clearance from the stopper only to be denied by the outstretched foot of David Craddock.
A great crossfield ball from Scott Wright set Frank Ross free down the left but when he cut in field his attempt at goal was well blocked by Mason. It had been a hectic opening twenty minutes played in dreadful conditions.
Keeper Mason was Hearts saviour on 42 minutes when he produced a superb save to tip over a fine Bruce Anderson shot. His team mates responded by taking the lead against the run of play, Currie notching his second goal of the game after fine work from Beith and Roy.
Half time Aberdeen 1 Hearts 2
Currie saw a shot deflected wide after 49 minutes as Hearts pushed for a third goal but the Dons then laid siege on the visitors goal with Mason forced to make fine saves from Wright and Ross in quick succession.
Wright should have made it 2-2 just before the hour but he directed his header wide after being picked out brilliantly by Jack MacKenzie?s cross.
Connor McLennan replaced Miles Storey on 61 minutes. Scott McKenna tried his luck from distance but didn?t test the keeper before Harlain Mbayo took the place of Sam Roscoe.
McLennan will feel he should have done better after being sent clear by Wright and the Dons were made to pay for their missed chances when Currie picked up a loose ball after a fine run by Petkov and he drove the ball past Craddock to complete a fine hat-trick.
Seb Ross took the place of Jamie Henry with twelve minutes left while Irving replaced star man Currie for Hearts.
Two late bookings in a competitive but fairly contested match ? Mbayo for dissent and skipper Beith for a clumsy challenge.
Another disappointing result from the young Dons who were left to rue missed chances.
