Peterhead Surprised.
The home side had considerable confidence in their abilities when they took the field against Aberdeen A on Saturday, especially after their clever win over the Association team the week previous. Aberdeen's forwards knew that their chance lay in beating the defence smartly and getting home at once. In this they were successful, for they had Peterhead's backs in a tangle right from the start, Ward getting through within two minutes from the start. Keeping up steam, Ward was again successful in beating Pyper, who was getting more work to do than he had altogether bargained for, but he has to be compli-mented, all the same, for keeping down. the score. Aberdeen's halves kept worrying the Peterhead forwards, and never allowed them to settle down to their game, while they plied the ball to their own attack with commendable judgment. Right to the end of the first half Aberdeen were top dogs, and crossed with a lead of 4 goals to nil. With such a comfortable margin in their favour Aberdeen were not so assertive in the second period, and, had Peterhead's vanguard been less anxious, they might have met with more success. Thomson was in spanking form in this half, but he failed to get his centres taken advantage of, from one of which a goal was materialised. Towards the finish the visitors bucked up and scored, running out winners by 5-1.Source: Bon-Accord, 25th April 1907
