18/03/1911 | KO: 15:30

Under wretched conditions, and before a few hundred spectators, Aberdeen Reserves met the teams selected from the clubs in the Aberdeenshire Football Association at Pittodrie Park on Saturday. The teams were:-

Aberdeen reserves: Greig; Macfarlane, Harper; Watson, Findlay, Low; Hay, Towns, Robertson, Edgar, Neilson.
Association Select: Herd (Peterhead); Finnie (Fraserburgh), Kennedy ('Varsity); Lamont (Ellon), Buchan (Fraserburgh), Dr Ross ('Varsity); Coutts (Ellon), W. J. Scott (Peterhead), Macrae ('Varsity), Taylor (Fraserburgh), Witts (Fraserburgh).
Referee - Mr. A walked, Aberdeen.

Shortly after the start Hay sent in a long shot, which Herd muddled, and before the keeper could recover, Robertson put it through. This proved to be all the scoring in the first period. The Association side attacked vigorously at times, and were well led by Scott, but their shooting was wretched. Greig had a few shots to deal with, but with the exception of a hard drive from Dr. Ross, none of these were of the dangerous order. On one occasion, however, the home goal had a narrow escape, but Harper cleared after the ball had been repeatedly blocked in the goalmouth.

With the wind in their favour in the second period, Aberdeen reserves immediately assumed the aggressive, and were soon swarming around Herd. The keeper had to deal with quite a number of shots, but few of these were of the dangerous order, and he easily disposed of them. Robertson had one particularly good effort, which went just wide of the post, but muddling in front of goal spoilt many favourable opportunities. After all the forwards had unsuccessfully tried, it was left to Findlay to augment his sides score and this he did with a hard drive. After this, goals came in quick succession. From an accurate cross by Hay, Robertson headed the third, and Towns followed up some good work by adding a fourth while Hay neatly put through a fifth. The Association side were quite overwhelmed, and although Scott made numerous creditable efforts to make ground he got little support from his colleagues. Taking the game all over, the Association team was well beaten, and although they might have scored in the first half, they were fortunate in not having a larger score registered against them in the second period. The only men to show anything like good form on the losers' side were Scott, Taylor, Dr. Ross, and Herd, and in the tside of Aberdonians which was never really stretched the best men were Macfarlane, Harper, Findlay, Robertson, Edgar, and Neilson.
