Played at Hampden Park, Glasgow, yesterday, in a Reserve League fixture. Teams:-
Queens Park Strollers: Porter; Bailly, Cathro; Leckie, Pettigrew, Bennett; Drummond, Brown, Leckie, Stephenson, Legge.
Aberdeen A: Greig; Hannah, Harper; Davidson, Macfarlane, Robertson; Hay, Scott, Nichol, Edgar, Neilson.
Queen's won the toss, and "Soldier" Nichol started. The opening passages were fought in midfield, where Davidson, the right half of the northerners, was conspicuous for clever play. Both teams took some time to settle, and Hay, for Aberdeen, had the first try, which Porter easily cleared. Queen's got up with clever passing, and Stevenson, in the act of shooting, was dispossessed by Hannah. Neilson, on the Aberdeen left, got the nicely away, but Baillie cleverly intercepted with a huge punt. Play opened up, and some clever play was witnessed on both sides. Queen's were more of the aggressors, but the northern defence checkmated up there every effort to count. Queen's were none too deadly in their shooting, invariably being too high. Greig had some creditable saves. Nichol had a good try at the other end. Following some muddling among the Queen's backs, Nichol, with a good shot, opened Aberdeen's score. Aberdeen were compelled to defend almost continuously, and this he did successfully. Aberdeen reasserted themselves, and Nichol almost scored on two occasions. Play was well contested from near the interval, when the score stood - Aberdeen A, 1; Queen's Park Strollers, 1.
Queen's resumed with great dash, and Greig had to punt clear. Aberdeen thereafter had the better of the exchange's for some time, but latterly Queen's were up, and experienced hard lines in not getting on the lead. Play was exciting and keenly contested, and chrome and had a shot which shivered the crossbar. Neilson and Nicol each had good tries. There was no scoring in the second half, and the final result was dash Queen's Park Strollers, 1; Aberdeen A,1.
