YOUNG DONS TAKE THE STING OUT OF THISTLE
Maintaining a recent improvement in Premier Reserve League results, Aberdeen's second string extended their undefeated run to five games when they beat Partick Thistle 2-1 at Pittodrie.
Despite the most promising of starts when, within a few minutes of the kick-off, Malcolm Kpedekpo found the top corner of the Thistle net with a fine shot to finish off an attack built up by Kevin Christie and Paul Kane, the young Dons had a rather disappointing first half and were pegged back to level terms before the interval.
The second half, however, saw them pick up their game and Michael Craig (twice) and Kpedekpo came close to scoring before Kane volleyed in the winning goal in the 81st minute.
Apart from the favourable result, the Pittodrie game furthered the club's youth development programme through second-half substitutions. Darren Young, who has made several Premier Reserve League appearances recently, was missing on this occasion, but his younger brother Derek (see Youth Report) made his Premier Reserve League debut when he replaced Mark Gray in 72 minutes, while youth squad goalkeeper Kevin Morgan took over from Derek Stillie for the final nine minutes of the game.
