Inverness Citadel Well Beaten At Aberdeen

Aberdeen Reserves had Inverness Citadel, under Highland League auspices, at Pittodrie Park on Saturday. They had little or no difficulty in bagging both the points; indeed, in the closing period it seemed to be merely a question of whether they would run into double figures. McLeod and Robertson netted in the first half. Chisholm, who all through was the outstanding man in the visitors' attack, scrape the bar after a characteristic sprint along the line, and Gray forced Barclay to tip over the bar. Otherwise the Aberdeen goal was seldom in danger. The Citadel half-backs were quite unable to hold the home forwards, who were seldom away from shooting distance of Mellis after the resumption. The backs had too much to do, and, though they stuck well to their guns, they were unable to avert a heavy defeat. Mellis had been beaten by Green, Brown, and McLeod before the Citadel opened their account through Forsyth, who capped splendid work by Wilson. Green had another for the reserves. Hume was hurt in the closing minutes, and had to be carried off. The play calls for little criticism. As indicated, the home attack - forwards and halves - was much too good for the opposition. Wright, the new right-half, made a promising debut, tackling smartly and showing commendable judgment in parting with the ball. The Citadel were very fast and plucky to the last. Particularly could this be said of their forwards, who shaped well in the outfield, but were well held near goal. Of course, he got little support from an overworked defence.
