Reserves At Peterhead

Peterhead had Aberdeen reserves as visitors to Recreation Park on Saturday in an Aberdeen and District League match, and surrenders both points, the visitors emerging victors by 3 goals to 1. Aberdeen winning the toss played towards the north goal, with the advantage of a slight breeze, and were first to press, when Guyan with a drive just missed by inches, while Buchan was called upon to save from Stevenson, and Thomson headed clear from a cross by McLean. Buchan brought off a great save from Grant by throwing himself full length at the ball. Then Hannah did well to clear when Grant was cutting in for goal. At this period Aberdeen were having all the play and it was no surprise when, after 15 minutes had gone, Guyan broke through and drove from close in, Buchan having no chance to save. Immediately after, Grant further increased the lead when he beat Buchan with a fast rising shot, and despite the protests of the local team that the ball was out of play before Grant caught it (the linesman having waved his flag for a throw in) the referee allowed the point. A good movement by Thomson was spoiled by off-sides. The Aberdeen defence were playing a rather robust game, and the locals were awarded three free kicks in quick succession outside the penalty area, all of which came to nothing. A great individual run by McLean on the right saw him send behind. At the other end Milne sent across a beauty, but J. Buchan drove the ball against Blackwell. Lees, after getting well up on the left, sent the ball right across the goalmouth, but the was no one lying handy to do the needful. Just on half-time Buchan brought off a great save from a drive from Guyan.

Immediately on resuming the visitors added a third goal, when during a scramble at the goalmouth Guyan managed to slip the ball past Buchan into the net. At the other end Petrie broke through, but with nobody but the goalkeeper to beat, sent past. The visiting backs were none too particular in their tackling, and Smith was cautioned by the referee. The homesters were having more say in the game now, but their forwards were allowing the opposing backs any amount of free kicking by lying too far back. A fine cross from Grant struck the top the cross-bar, and went behind, while at the other end J. Buchan and Slessor both had tries for goal, but Blackwell was giving nothing away.
Petrie was going through when McBoyle brought him down outside the penalty area, and Hannah, taking the kick, opened Peterhead's account by kicking the ball through a crowd of players, past Blackwell into the net. From a cross by Milne, Petrie headed goalward, but Blackwell saved. At this period Aberdeen were hard pressed to avert further disaster. Robertson worked his way out to the left and screwed the ball towards the goal, but Buchan ran out and cleared well, Petrie, although harassed by McBoyle, managed to drive the ball at Blackwell, who succeeded in clearing at the expense of a fruitless corner. McLean got off on the right, and sent in a drive, but Buchan effected a great clearance with Guyan in close attendance. Watt, while pressed, conceded a corner, which came to nothing.
