An Alliance fixture between St Johnstone "A" and Aberdeen "A" was played at Muirton Park, Perth, yesterday.
Play opened quietly before a mere handful of spectators and an early shot by Smithson from well out was pushed round the post by McSevich.
For a long spell the Saints held the upper hand, and served up some clever football, particularly on the right wing. McSevich held in splendid style a cross, while a moment later Main shot past when well placed. In 20 minutes the home team took the lead through Main. Nicolson crossed accurately for the Perth leader to head past from close range. The Saints continued to hold the upper band. In clearing a lob by Main McSevich collided with the goalpost and had to receive the trainer's attention. Midfield play followed, but the homesters were always a shade better a football side than Aberdeen, and McLaren had little to do. A few minutes from half-time Nicolson added another goal for the Saints off a cross from McGregor.
Upon the resumption Aberdeen showed up better, but the forwards finished poorly. McLaren had a good save from a long drive by Robertson. McFarlane failed at an easy chance, pushing the ball into McLaren's hands, while Yorston had a fine effort held. Nicolson struck the port from short range with McSevich beaten. St Johnstone were worthy winners.
