Armstrong Notches Equaliser Against Galston
With a re-arranges forward line, Aberdeen A just managed to escape defeat at Galston in an Alliance League match. The homesters did most of the pressing in the opening period, and play never lacked interest. Westland had several good saves, but he had to admit defeat when Gilliland shot hard from close in. A great struggle ensued, but there was no further scoring before the interval.. Aberdeen A applied the screw on the resumption, and the pressure had its reward when Armstrong capped a solo effort by beating Bell with a good shot. Both teams went all out for the winning goal and the 'keepers were kept busy. Fisher had several chances for Galston, but over-eagerness and a strong Aberdeen defence in which O'Reilly and Anderson were prominent, kept him from scoring. Aberdeen A had occasional raids before the finish, and Johnstone and Newman were prominent on several occasions, but strong tackling by Reid kept Bell from being seriously troubled.Source: Press & Journal, 20th August 1934
