THREE GOALS IN LAST FIFTEEN MINUTES
EARLIER in the season Aberdeen's reserve side made a habit of rallying in the last fifteen minutes to win the game, and they were up to their old tricks on Saturday. For seventy-five minutes the Kirkcaldy team, brilliantly led by Haywood, dictated the run of play. Then Taylor scored rather a soft goal for Aberdeen, who suddenly sprung to life, and went on to win in surprising fashion. The visitors deserved a point at least.VISITORS TWO UP
In the first half they were easily superior, half-backs and forwards combining well. Haywood was an alert leader, and it was only his due when he placed Raith ahead with a cleverly-placed left-foot shot midway through the first half. The home attack was rearranged in the second half, but this brought no improvement in the early stages. A penalty kick was wasted, Grant blazing the ball wildly over the bar. When Haywood cleverly netted a second goal with fifteen minutes to go it looked all up with Aberdeen, but, after a great run by Smith, Taylor reduced the leeway. Three minutes later Pattillo equalised with a brilliant shot, taken on the run. Raith's defence staggered under this double blow, and Smith produced the winning goal within a few minutes.ABERDEEN STARS Best for Aberdeen were Gumming (Mugiemoss) in goal, Scott at right half and Bain at inside right. Smith improved when shifted to outside right in the second half. Raith were well served by Stuart, Baxter, Gilmour and Haywood.
