Forres Give Dons Hard Game

BUT HEAVY CONDITIONS HELP SENIORS

Wintry conditions prevented many from attending Mosset Park, Forres, last night, when Aberdeen played an exhibition game with Forres Mechanics, but nevertheless the Dons were given a warm reception. Forres had a fair share of the play but lacked the guile and finishing power of their experienced opponents.
The Highland Leaguers were not overawed and Kelly in the goal was early in action. The 'keeper made a daring dive at Taylor's feet when the winger was clean through. Mennie missed a great chance by crashing the ball over with only Kelly to beat.
Williams led Charlie McGill a merry dance, but the former Pittodrie defender stuck it out and usually came off best.
Aberdeen had the better of mid-field exchanges, revealing superior craft, but they found few loopholes in the home defence. Pattillo missed an easy chance when he ballooned over the bar from six yards. A heavy snowfall made the pitch greasy, and this proved an asset to the Dons, who adapted their play to the conditions.
After half an hour Aberdeen took the lead. Ralph miskicked, and from Smith's cross Williams netted from close range. After Mennie had shot to the side net with a hard drive Aberdeen resumed the attack, but French defied them till half-time.
Forres were early in the limelight after the change over and Kelly was frequently tested.
Following corner play on the left. Hume netted the second Aberdeen goal with a grand shot. Williams scored the third, while Forres appealed for offside. Mechanics rallied and a series of corners was forced, but Kelly kept his charge intact.
Sutherland, in attempting to clear, deflected the ball to Hume, who scored Aberdeen's final goal.
Outstanding for Forres were:- French, McGill, Mackenzie, Burr, Dickie, Duncan and Mennie. Prominent in the Aberdeen team were:- Kelly, Graham. Waddell, Hume and Williams.
