YOUNG DONS ON TOP
After this a fierce battle for supremacy was waged, but the visitors gradually got the upper hand and Ferguson equalised, while just on the interval Williams forced his way through to score third for the Young Dons. The wee Springbok was again on the target in early minutes the second half when he finished off a good move by Pattillo. It was nearly all Aberdeen after this, and it looked only a matter of time before they added to their score. Smith netted twice in the closing minutes to give the Aberdeen side a comfortable victory. Hibs, who had weaknesses in defence, were best served by Cummings, McLeod, Gilmartin, Cuthbertson and Gallagher. Aberdeen's stars were Adey, Laing, Waddell, Smith, Pattillo, Ferguson and Williams.Source: Press & Journal, 24th August 1939
