IT was a much belter young Dons' side than was last seen at Pittodrie that defeated Partick Thistle "A" 3-1 on Saturday. The Dons' South Africans, Ray Botha and Jimmy Preston, made their first appearance before the home crowd.
Both gave a good account of themselves. Botha, at outside-right, was fast, and his crosses were always dangerous. Preston has a deceptively casual style, but gives signs of developing into a sound back.
Coleman opened the scoring for the home team when he finished a brilliant run driving the ball hard into the roof of the net. Spalding added another from a penalty awarded when Botha was fouled just as he had broken through.
Younger reduced the leeway, but a minute later Jeffrey, who had done some grand constructive work in the forward line, capped his efforts with a well headed goal off a Botha corner.
