Aberdeen's championship challenge ended as they went down 3-1 at Pittodrie.
Rangers included Tony Vidmar, Marcus Gayle and Allan Johnston in their side while the Aberdeen side contained five members of their Under 18 team.
Aberdeen created the first chance of the match when Scott Michie crossed but Robert Duncan could not apply the finishing touch. Aberdeen were made to pay for missing this chance when Jani Kauppila set up Peter MacDonald to shoot home off the post. Three minutes later MacDonald scored his second with a header despite the Dons efforts to clear.
In the 34th minute the Dons missed a chance to pull a goal back when Robert Duncan was pulled down, Derek Young had the resultant penalty saved by Christiansen.
Aberdeen were made to pay for this four minutes before half time when Marcus Gayle put the visitors three ahead.
With Rangers well in command, the second half was a low key affair, but Aberdeen pulled a goal back when Rachid Belabed shot home from the edge of the box.
