The Dons under 21 team recorded their biggest win of the season tonight against a young Motherwell side watched by the new management team of Eric Black and Terry Butcher. In a match that Aberdeen dominated, the crowd were treated to a goal feast.
The crowd were forced to wait for this goal rush though, as neither side were able to find a way through in the opening stages. Chris Clark finally made the breakthrough in the 25th minute when he hit the net with a 25yard free kick. Ten minutes later Scott Michie (pictured)doubled the lead when he collected a through ball and calmly slotted the ball past Connolly. This should have put the Dons on easy street, but Motherwell grabbed a lifeline a minute before the break when Peat dropped the ball and Wilson had the simplest of tasks to convert the chance.
Half-time: Motherwell 1 Aberdeen 2
It took the Dons only 30 seconds of the second half to increase their lead. Callum Bett was the scorer as he slotted the ball in off keeper Connolly. The game was effectively over two minutes later when Michie added the fourth and his second. Ex Don, Andy Dow gave the home team a ray of hope when he fired in a 25-yard free kick in the 54th minute, but late goals from O'Donoghue and Derek Young gave the Dons a comfortable win.
